Description

Protein translocation, the transport of a protein through a pore, is essential for all living organisms and also of great importance for medical-technical applications. This subproject investigates the translocation of biopolymers through natural membrane channels and in a later stage through artificial pores.

The main goal is to gain insight into several key functions on a molecular level. This includes the opening mechanism, the translocation of different molecules like water and ions through the channel, the sealing of the channel, and the relaxation behavior.

This knowledge can later be useful to functionalize artificial pores, which can then be used as a model system for translocation, in order to improve pore design with respect to technical applications.
